Takeaways:
- Welcome to Week 1 of the fantasy football season. And let me be honest about one thing before we get going here: I don't know what's about to unfold in 2025. I think I have an idea. I mean, sure. Ja’Marr Chase is very good at football. As is Justin Jefferson. Same goes for Saquon Barkley and Jahmyr Gibbs. I got the easy stuff. But I also have a lot of working theories, too.
- I'm curious to see how the Dallas Cowboys look in Week 1. Is Dak Prescott going to return to the form he showed when he was the MVP runner-up in 2023? And if he does, who is the receiver who benefits the most? CeeDee Lamb? George Pickens? Dak led the NFL in touchdown passes the last time he played a full season. The Cowboys were one of the most pass-happy teams in the league in 2024. But that was before they hired Brian Schottenheimer as head coach and made some other big changes, including trading for Pickens. So, I have questions, but I'm still bullish on CeeDee, Dak and Pickens this year.
- Two other tricky players to rank were rookie running backs Omarion Hampton and TreVeyon Henderson. Hampton seems like a near-lock to get the majority of the touches for the Chargers on Friday because Najee Harris only has about a week's worth of practices under his belt as he returns from his eye injury. It's not like last year, when J.K. Dobbins was the head of the backfield for the Chargers. (Dobbins is now making life miserable for us in Denver, where I want RJ Harvey to be the guy.) Henderson's situation seems a bit murkier, with Rhamondre Stevenson still listed as the starter on the unofficial depth chart. I went through the offseason hoping Henderson was going to get the full-time gig. Starting him in fantasy this week will take a strong stomach, because we don't know for sure how the touches will be distributed. But if the preseason was any indication, he should have a solid role.

Takeaways:
- Let's talk about the Jacksonville Jaguars. First-year head coach Liam Coen -- outside of his version of the Duval chant -- is one of my favorite people in the league. But who is his starting running back? Who is going to get the most touches? I just don't know. How much offense is Travis Hunter going to play? How much defense? I am walking into these rankings with a solid working theory about it, but that's all it is right now.
- Speaking of Hunter, I have him ranked No. 52 at the moment, but he might be the biggest wild card this year. Still, I'm starting him wherever possible. I'm trying to remember the last time I was this excited to see a receiver's debut in the NFL. The closest I can think of right now is Randy Moss back in 1998. My friend and I drove to Las Vegas for Week 1 of the NFL season and stayed at the Imperial Palace. Great place to watch a game back in the day, mind you. I started Moss on my fantasy team (yep, we played fantasy back in the 1990s) that day, so I was thrilled when he hauled in a pair of touchdowns against the Buccaneers in his debut. My friend -- a Cowboys fan who was smarting from Dallas' decision to pass on Moss and draft Greg Ellis instead -- was not. He kind of hated it, actually. I will never forget that.
