Sin City has eyes on its next head coach -- even if it will have to wait.
The Las Vegas Raiders are zeroing in on Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their new head coach, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Sunday, per sources.
Las Vegas can't officially hire Kubiak until after Super Bowl LX, but all signs are pointing toward a partnership between the two.
Kubiak, just 38, has done a masterful job with Seattle's offense in his first year as a coordinator with the team. The Seahawks finished the 2025 regular season ranked third in points and eighth in yards, and arguably saved some of their best efforts for the playoffs thus far, scoring 72 combined points across two postseason games to reach the Super Bowl, where Kubiak's focus for the next week will be getting past the vaunted New England Patriots defense.
Such success led to widespread popularity in this year's coaching cycle. Kubiak also interviewed for head coaching jobs with the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins and New York Giants. Following his second interview for the Raiders' vacancy, Las Vegas has locked in on him.
Kubiak, who also had one-year stints coordinating offenses for the Minnesota Vikings (2021) and New Orleans Saints (2024), got his start in the league as an offensive quality control coach for the Vikings in 2013. He was also a Denver Broncos offensive assistant from 2016-2018, briefly working under his father, Gary Kubiak, who was Denver's head coach for the first year of that span.
Once a deal is official, he'll join a division of head coaches that are all much closer in age to his dad -- The Chiefs' Andy Reid (67 years old), the Broncos' Sean Payton (62) and the Chargers' Jim Harbaugh (62) are each two-plus decades his senior.
As well as overcoming the experience gap, Kubiak will also be entrusted with providing stability and success to a club that has experienced neither in quite some time.
The Raiders are coming off a 3-14 season, their worst since 2014. The Broncos went to the AFC Championship Game, the Chargers played in the postseason for a second straight year and the Chiefs only faltered with a playoff miss after capturing three Super Bowls in six years. Since losing Super Bowl XXXVII to conclude the 2002 campaign, the Raiders have reached the playoffs only twice, and are now on their fifth different full-time head coach since 2021.
The offense needs a major reboot after finishing dead last in both scoring and yards, and the 25th-ranked defense in points allowed wasn't a ton better.
There is plenty of reason for hope, though. Offense is Kubiak's specialty. He'll have the ear of one of the winningest individuals in NFL history, minority owner Tom Brady. Ashton Jeanty should be a backfield star for the foreseeable future, and Maxx Crosby has been a constant in the backfield of opponents for years. The Raiders have many needs to address, but they do own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 draft. They can use that selection on an all-important franchise quarterback if they so choose.
The road to contention might prove arduous after the disastrous Pete Carroll era ended after just one season in another head coach firing, but Kubiak stood out to Las Vegas as the one to guide the team there.
The Raiders have waited a long time to build a winner -- what's another week to land their head coach.
