Jack Conklin's return to the field was short-lived and his season is unfortunately over.
The Cleveland Browns tackle suffered a torn patellar tendon in Sunday night's loss to Baltimore, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. The injury ends his 2021 season after just seven games played. Head coach Kevin Stefanski later confirmed the ruptured tendon and told reporters that Conklin will need to undergo surgery to repair the injury.
Conklin battled injuries throughout the 2021 campaign, landing on injured reserve with an elbow ailment from which he'd only returned Sunday. He didn't make it to halftime of his first game back from IR, suffering the knee injury on his 10th offensive snap of the game.
Conklin has a history of knee injuries, tearing his ACL in early 2018 and landing on injured reserve near the end of the following season. When healthy, he's been elite, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2016 and 2020. He won't make a repeat appearance in 2021 and is instead headed for a lengthy recovery and rehab process.
The Browns also placed long snapper Charley Hughlett on the team's reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.
Injuries/COVID-19
- Washington Football Team running back J.D. McKissic was carted off the field late in Monday night's game and did not return. Kicker Joey Slye (hamstring) and center Wes Schweitzer (ankle) each exited Monday night's game early.

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who sat out Week 12 with a concussion, was a full participant Monday and said he expects to play this week. Running back Ezekiel Elliott (knee) was also full-go. Wideout Cedric Wilson (ankle) did not practice. Defensive tackle Neville Gallimore was designated to return to practice.
- New York Jets coach Robert Saleh said tight end Trevon Wesco will miss two to four weeks with an ankle injury.
