What You Need To Know

1) Pete Carroll heads into Las Vegas with the hope of stabilizing a Raiders franchise that hasn't seen much success in recent seasons. The 73-year-old coach appears to be energized after spending last season away from the sidelines and he joins a loaded AFC West with a ton of coaching experience and recent success -- Andy Reid's Chiefs, Sean Payton's Broncos and Jim Harbaugh's Chargers all made the postseason in 2024. Carroll's arrival, which includes new general manager John Spytek, brings forth much-needed change for the Raiders, and his undertaking figures to headline training camp this summer, but there were several key on-field changes in Las Vegas ahead of the 2025 season.

2) Some thought Russell Wilson would reunite with Carroll upon the head coach's return to the sidelines. A QB-HC reunion did happen in Las Vegas, but it was the Raiders acquiring Geno Smith from the Seahawks instead. Smith, who got a two-year extension from the Raiders, enters the 2025 season with "unfinished business" after being reconnected with Carroll. Along with new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, the veteran QB will lead an offense that finished 27th in total offense in consecutive seasons and dead last in rushing in 2024. The Raiders selected Ashton Jeanty with the No. 6 overall pick in April's draft and the rookie is poised to see plenty of action to prepare him for the turnaround. Smith is confident and believes the Raiders offense could be "explosive and efficient."

3) On the other side of the ball, defensive coordinator Patrick Graham returns to his post despite the offseason of change, but there are plenty of new faces he will be directing. The Raiders brought in a new set of enforcers, revamping the linebacking corps with Germaine Pratt and Elandon Roberts while adding a hard-hitting safety in Jeremy Chinn. Las Vegas also signed former Packers first-round cornerback Eric Stokes this offseason. The health of defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who was limited to five games in his debut season in Las Vegas due to a Jones fracture in his foot and was seen in a boot in recent weeks, will be an issue to monitor over the summer. A healthy Wilkins alongside pass rusher Maxx Crosby would be a boon for the unit and one of the more lethal one-two punches in the league.
