Ravens sign Jason Babin to replace Terrell Suggs

The Baltimore Ravens have zeroed in on their replacement for outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, who was lost for the season with an Achilles tendon injury.

The team has signed veteran pass rusher Jason Babin to a one-year contract, NFL Media's Rand Getlin reported, according to sources with knowledge of the signing. The Ravens made the news official Wednesday.

Babin, 35, was released by the Jets at final cuts after managing just two sacks in 16 games last season.

The Ravens figure to turn to a rotation opposite Elvis Dumervil, with Courtney Upshaw remaining an early-down specialist and Babin battling fourth-round rookie Za'Darius Smith for sub-package snaps.

At this stage of Babin's career, he's unlikely to be an impact addition.

Fortunately, the Ravens are loaded with young talent up front in the form of nose tackle Brandon Williams and defensive ends Timmy Jernigan and Carl Davis.

This should remain one of the NFL's most productive front sevens.
