Matthew Stafford's new contract for 2025 was negotiated during the NFL Scouting Combine but not completed -- until now.
Stafford and the Rams finalized terms on a pact that pays the Super Bowl-winning quarterback $44 million this year, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday, per sources informed of the deal.
Rapoport added that Stafford has already been paid $4 million this season and the other $40 million is fully guaranteed. In addition, if the QB is on the Rams' roster at the start of free agency in 2026, he'll lock in another $40 million, per Rapoport.
Stafford was set to earn $58 million over the two years on his previous pact. Now, he's in line to earn $84 over that span.
Los Angeles allowed Stafford to see what he could fetch in a trade this offseason -- with the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders showing interest -- before agreeing to a reunion earlier this year.
The Rams have repeatedly noted that at this stage of the 37-year-old's career, it's basically a year-by-year renewal of vows. Last year, it took until the end of July for a new pact to come about. This year, it took a couple of months. With $40 million currently in line for next year, we'll see how things play out in 2026.
For a signal-caller entering his 17th season, retirement is always a possibility. Coach Sean McVay told Adam Schein on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio last week that he hopes Stafford gives L.A. a "couple more years."
