Injury roundup: Roddy White admits high ankle sprain

Add Mike Smith to the list of NFL coaches who can't be trusted to reveal the full extent of injuries to his star players.

After Smith denied whispers in late August that Roddy White's ankle sprain was of the dreaded "high" variety, the Atlanta Falcons' veteran wide receiver revealed Sunday night that the injury indeed is a high ankle sprain.

Used as a decoy in Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints, White played just 37 snaps versus 45 for third receiver Harry Douglas. It was evident that White could not push off his ankle.

"It will be maybe a few more weeks before I can go out there and be myself," White conceded, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "They wanted me in certain areas to do certain things so that they couldn't just bracket guys. ... It's hard to cut. It's hard to do just about everything at the position."

White never has missed a game in his nine-year NFL career. It's a good bet he will continue to play at less than full strength, but that doesn't mean he should be in your fantasy football lineup:

Tight end Marcedes Lewis is unsure if he will practice this week after missing the season opener with a calf injury.

»Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush dislocated his thumb and pulled a groin muscle during his stellar performance in Sunday's victory. Bush later said he was not "too banged up."

»New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen will miss a few weeks to undergo surgery for a dislocated bone in his left wrist. Tight end Zach Sudfeld was limited in Monday's practice after pulling his hamstring. Both injuries occured in Sunday's win.

»Panthers right guard Garry Williams is out for the season after tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee during Sunday's loss. With left guard Amini Silatolu (hamstring) also out of the lineup, Carolina went with a rotation of Travelle Wharton, Chris Scott and Jeff Byers against the Seattle Seahawks.

» The MRI on Indianapolis Colts tight end Dwayne Allen's hip came back negative. Allen said after the win over the Raiders that his hip was fine. Colts coach Chuck Pagano is hopeful about Allen's status for Sunday versus the Dolphins.

»Buffalo Bills rookie kick returner Marquise Goodwinwill undergo surgery to repair a fracture in his hand suffered versus the Patriots. He's out indefinitely. Free safety Jairus Byrd vowed Monday not to play until his feet are "100 percent" healthy.

»Jeremy Kerley missed Monday's practice after failing a Monday morning concussion test. The New York Jets' slot receiver did pass an in-game concussion test during Sunday's win.

»New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara sustained a concussion of his own in Sunday night's loss. He'll have to go through the concussion protocol before he's allowed back to practice.

»Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchakdownplayed the knee injury that knocked running back Shonn Greene out of Sunday's win over the Steelers. Munchak hopes Greene will be available for Week 2 at Houston.

»Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis indicated that left tackle Andrew Whitworthhas a chance to return from his knee injury to face the Steelers next Monday night.
