The New York Jets' season somehow keeps getting worse.
Veteran running back Matt Forte suffered a knee injury early in the first quarter of New York's win over the 49ers and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Forte has been one of the few bright spots in what has been a very disappointing year for Gang Green.
Bilal Powell handled the bulk of the backfield duties in Forte's absence.
New York's secondary was also bit by the injury bug. Cornerback Buster Skrine was ruled out with a head injury. Safety Marcus Gilchrist suffered a season-ending torn patella tendon and will need surgery. Tight end Brandon Bostick left with an ankle injury and did not return.
Here are the other injuries we're monitoring Sunday:
- Chargers running back Melvin Gordon was carted off the field in the first quarter with a hip injury and was later ruled out in the second quarter. Cornerback Craig Mager (stinger, elbow) did not return.
Chargers star rookie defender Joey Bosa went to the locker room in the second quarter and was later ruled out with a neck injury.
- Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehillexited the game late in the third quarter after taking a shot to the leg and went to the locker room -- later being ruled out. Matt Moore took over in his absence.
Dolphins coach Adam Gase said after the game that the injury "doesn't look good" and that they'll confirm the severity of the injury on Monday. Gase said the fear is that it was an ACL injury.
- Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford badly dislocated the middle finger on his throwing hand, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of his condition. Rapoport adds the finger is described as "a solidly jammed knuckle." Stafford is expected to play through the injury for the rest of the Lions' campaign and not undergo surgery.
- Redskins linebacker Su'a Cravens may have suffered a partially torn biceps, Rapoport reported. An MRI will determine his next step.
- Falcons wideout Julio Jones (turf toe) did not play against the Rams after being listed among the inactives. With Mohamed Sanu also out, Atlanta turned to Taylor Gabriel, Justin Hardy and Aldrick Robinson to pick up the slack.
- Saints wideout Michael Thomas (foot) was inactive against the Buccaneers.
- Cardinals cornerback Marcus Cooper (back) and linebacker Deone Bucannon (ankle) did not return.
- The Vikings ruled out cornerback Trae Waynes (concussion) and wideout Laquon Treadwell (ankle) after they suffered injuries.
- Colts wideout Donte Moncrief didn't return after suffering a hamstring injury.
- Packers tight end Jared Cook was held out Sunday for precautionary reasons after suffering a lung contusion, Rapoport reports. Cook is expected to be OK.
- Niners tight end Vance McDonald was ruled out with a shoulder injury. Wide receiver Torrey Smith was also ruled out with a concussion; the veteran was tended to on the field for an extended period of time before being carted off.
- Rams safety Maurice Alexander did not return after suffering a concussion in the third quarter.
