Haloti Ngata wants to play in '16, plans to talk to Lions

Haloti Ngata isn't ready to walk away from the NFL.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that the veteran defensive tackle wants to play in 2016 and beyond, per a source who spoke with the lineman.

After spending last season with the Lions, Ngata will talk with Detroit "soon" about a new deal and remains excited about the chance to stay in the Motor City, per Rapoport.

Set to hit free agency, Ngata started 14 games last season and finished as the 48th-ranked player at his position, per Pro Football Focus. He wasn't the same run-stuffing force we saw in Baltimore, but Ngata still pressured the pocket with 2.5 sacks and 25 quarterback hurries.

Heading into a busy offseason under new general manager Bob Quinn, the Lions also have Caraun Reid at the position and Tyrunn Walker set to hit free agency. Ngata, though, makes sense for Detroit if the price is right.
