A foot injury will translate to missed game time for Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland.
Bland, a 2023 All-Pro, could miss multiple weeks with the foot ailment, per the team. The cornerback was listed as a DNP on Wednesday's practice report.
It's troublesome for the 26-year-old Bland, who's coming off a 2024 season in which he missed 10 games due to a stress facture in his foot; the Cowboys said this injury is unrelated to last year's. Just when Bland is back remains to be seen, but he is expected to be out for Dallas' Week 2 matchup with the New York Giants on Sunday to start.
Bland had a league-high nine interceptions in a memorable 2023 campaign in which he had an NFL-record five interceptions returned for touchdowns. However, his follow-up 2024 season was marred by him sitting out his team's first 10 contests.
Ahead of this season, Bland inked a four-year, $92 million extension.
In a season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Bland recorded three tackles and allowed two receptions for 11 yards.
In Bland's absence, the Cowboys are likely to push Reddy Steward, C.J. Goodwin or rookie Trikweze Bridges into a starting role.
After the Cowboys traded rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers ahead of the season, Dallas' defense has lost another Pro Bowl talent.
