Jayden Daniels has been beset by another injury.
The Washington Commanders quarterback suffered a dislocated left elbow in Sunday's 37-20 loss, head coach Dan Quinn told reporters following the game.
Quinn told reporters X-rays did not show a fracture, but Daniels will travel back home with the team and undergo more imaging on Monday.
"Once I know an update that we can move forward with then I'll give you that," Quinn said. "Man, are we bummed for him. He was really playing his ass off. We will rally so hard around Marcus (Mariota) until Jayden's back. That's what we talked about as a team."
Daniels suffered the injury on the final play of the first half. He stumbled after taking a snap under center and braced himself with his left arm before falling to the turf in obvious pain as his pass attempt fell incomplete.
Medical staff quickly attended to Daniels on the field at AT&T Stadium, and he was eventually carted to the locker room. The Commanders ruled Daniels out after halftime.
"I thought looking back on it, at the 1-yard line, we need touchdowns," Quinn said of the third-and-goal play-call with three seconds remaining in the second quarter. "I don't regret that call. Obviously any time someone's injured you play the 'what if' game. I don't think this is one of those times for me. I hate that it happened. ... I wasn't hesitant about going into that spot. We're going to be aggressive in this game against their offense. So I don't regret that. Obviously, the outcome sucks. But it wasn't a 'what if' or 'I wish I had done something differently.'"
Daniels was 11 of 17 for 96 yards with a touchdown at the time of his injury. He also had 69 yards rushing on seven attempts. Mariota started the second half for the Commanders in place of Daniels and, as Quinn mentioned, will take over under center for as long as Daniels is out.
Daniels dislocated his left elbow last season during a game against the Seahawks on Nov. 2, 2025, and missed the following three weeks. He would appear in just one other game that season -- a blowout loss to the Vikings in which he aggravated the injury.
Daniels electrified the NFL in 2024, leading Washington to a surprise trip to the NFC Championship Game and winning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Last year, however, was a slog for both Daniels and the Commanders.
Daniels started seven games during his sophomore season and was sidelined multiple times, suffering a knee sprain and a hamstring injury before the November elbow injury.
