Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh had cardiac ablation, hip replacement this offseason

It's not just players who went under the knife this offseason.

Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday that he underwent a successful cardiac ablation and hip replacement surgery in the offseason.

"The doctors can't find anything wrong with me," Harbaugh quipped, via ESPN's Kris Rhim. "A-grade."

Last season, in a Week 6 win over the Denver Broncos, Harbaugh briefly left the sideline and went into the locker room. Following the game, he noted that he was diagnosed with atrial flutter, a type of arrhythmia causing the heart to speed its beat. The 61-year-old was put on heart medication and wore a monitor for two weeks.

The longtime coach has had three episodes of atrial flutter, the previous in 2012 with the San Francisco 49ers and another in 1999.

In addition to the heart concern, Harbaugh often walked with a significant limp, ultimately leading to the hip replacement.

With the surgeries in the rearview, Harbaugh and the Chargers can focus on preparing for the 2025 season, aiming to finally dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.
