Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb going back to his 'fundamentals' after drop-filled opener

A week after suffering from a severe case of the dropsies, CeeDee Lamb vowed not to let it happen again.

"I didn't get any rest really that whole weekend," Lamb said Thursday, via ESPN. "Again, that's the competitor that I am and how much I'm true to the game as far as being honest and just giving it everything I got because I do love this game, I love this squad, and I love the guys that I do it with. As for me, just holding my end of the bargain and just pulling through for the guys.

Pro Football Focus charted Lamb with four drops in Week 1's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. It marked the most drops credited by PFF in a single game since Najee Harris in Week 3, 2021 (5) and the most drops by a WR in a single game since Jerry Jeudy in Week 16, 2020 (5).

After the loss, Lamb came into the facility on an off-day and worked on the JUGS machine.

"That wasn't supposed to go viral. I wasn't doing that for no internet, to be honest," Lamb said. "So I came in on a day when nobody was in the building, and I still caught a camera. I didn't even know that the camera was there. Shout out to them. As for me, bro, it's going back to my fundamentals. I know what it is. I know what to do. Again, it's Game 1, we got 16 more of these."

Even with the big drops in the loss to Philadelphia, Lamb led the Cowboys with seven catches for 110 yards, 80 more than any other Dallas player (George Pickens was No. 2 with 30).

"I would rather nobody else than myself in those situations," Lamb said. "I came up short once. We'll see the rest."

If not for two fourth-quarter drops by Lamb, the Cowboys might have completed an improbable upset of the Super Bowl champs, and the discussion in Dallas might be much different heading into Sunday’s game versus New York.

Dak Prescott, for his part, isn't fretting about Lamb's flubs.

"It wasn't the best day. It wasn't the best day for CeeDee. It's understandable. It happens. Hell, I've had them, right? We've all had them," Prescott said. "... I'm not going to lose confidence in (Lamb). And so don't worry, just keep approaching the way that you're approaching, and you're going to have a bounce-back and many of them."

The Cowboys will attempt to avoid starting 0-2 against the similarly one-loss Giants on Sunday. Dallas has not started 0-2 since 2010, when Wade Phillips was the head coach.
