As the San Francisco 49ers deal with two high-profile contract squabbles -- Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams -- one man they don't have to worry about this year is quarterback Brock Purdy.
The Pro Bowl QB is a year away from being eligible for an extension. Given that fact, a future payday isn't in his thought process.
"Guys talk about it within the locker room and stuff, and so we all end up hearing about it," Purdy told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports over the weekend. "But for me, that's so far down the road with my situation. And for me, I've got to be present right now, right here at camp. I've got to be better and grow right now so that I can be the best I can be for this team this year."
Purdy set a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards in 2023 -- doing so in 16 games -- and led all signal-callers with a 113.0 passer rating and 9.6 yards per attempt average. Any lingering questions about his future under center were washed away as he helped guide the Niners to another Super Bowl.
A noticeably muscled-up Purdy said his only goal this time around is to finish the job and lift the Lombardi Trophy.
"Obviously, we have a goal at hand, going all the way, and winning, and finishing it," Purdy said. "So that's where my mindset's at. To be caught up in the money and the stats, all that kind of stuff down the road, I'd be wrong if that's where my mindset was at, and so it's not."
If he helps the Niners over the Super Bowl hump, the money will be there. Purdy's future payday is part of the calculus the San Francisco front office must sort through in determining potential future deals for Aiyuk and Williams.
