- Time to fly. The pressure is on in Atlanta after the Kirk Cousins experiment didn't work out in 2024, but that didn't scare off the schedule-makers. For a second straight season, the Falcons will be featured in five prime-time games, including in Weeks 15 and 17, right in the thick of the playoff push. The team's schedule is loaded with marquee matchups, starting with a Week 1 game against the rival Buccaneers.
- Tough start. The Falcons will face three 2024 playoff teams in the first four weeks, including a division rival (Buccaneers) and last season’s NFC runner-up (Commanders). If Michael Penix Jr. and Atlanta are going to deliver on expectations in a pivotal season, they'll have to prove their worth against quality competition from the jump. The going doesn't get any easier after the first month, either: the Bills come to town in Week 6 and a trip to San Francisco immediately follows that contest.
- Prepare for a marathon. An early bye (Week 5) sets up for quite a grind from mid-October to the end of the season. Included in that stretch is a trip to Berlin for a game against the Colts and a quick return trip to host the Panthers before playing four road games over the following five weeks. They'll return home for a prime-time date with the Rams in Week 17, which could carry plenty of playoff implications. There’s a daunting path to get there, though.

- Pack your bags. After building some momentum down the stretch in 2024, the Panthers have a chance to prove they’re moving in the right direction by winning away from home early in the season. Three of their first four games are on the road, with matchups against QBs Trevor Lawrence, Kyler Murray and Drake Maye in the road contests. They will provide an early test for a defense that underwent a makeover after setting the record for most points allowed in a single season last year.
- Returning to prime time. The Panthers will hit the field in front of a national audience for the first time since the 2023 season when they travel to face the 49ers in Week 12 on Monday Night Football. Their return to prime time stands as a vote of confidence in coach Dave Canales' efforts to turn around the franchise. If Bryce Young can build on the progress he displayed in the back half of the 2024 season, perhaps we’ll be seeing Carolina play under the lights more often.
- NFC South showdowns. Are the schedule-makers anticipating a battle between Carolina and Tampa Bay for the division crown in 2025? Dave Canales' squad meets his former employer twice in the final three weeks of the regular season. If the Panthers are in position to contend for the NFC South, those games will be appointment viewing. If not, the idea of potentially playing spoiler is appetizing, too.

The Panthers are one of just seven teams that do not have a Thursday game on their schedule. In fact, their Monday night matchup with San Francisco in Week 12 is currently slated to be their only prime-time game of the 2025 regular season.

- Early tests await young QB. Derek Carr's retirement means there's a strong chance 2025 second-round pick Tyler Shough will be the team’s QB1. If Shough does win the job, he’ll get a chance to be measured on the same field against some of the other top young talents at his position, with games against the Patriots (Drake Maye) and Bears (Caleb Williams) in the first half of the season. He might even be going up against fellow rookie Jaxson Dart when New Orleans hosts the Giants in Week 5. There are plenty of unknowns with the Saints at the moment, but those games -- which all occur between Weeks 5 and 7 -- could make for an intriguing stretch of Sundays.
- Out of prime time. After finishing 5-12 in 2024 and starting over at head coach/quarterback in the offseason, the schedule-makers decided not to give the Saints any prime-time games. They are slated to play in the late window on several Sundays, but a lack of national games is an indication of the expectations for this team. So, you’re not alone if you don’t think New Orleans will shock the world in 2025, even with new coach Kellen Moore roaming the sideline.
- Midseason check-up. New Orleans enters a potentially pivotal stretch from Weeks 7-10, a span that includes three road dates in four weeks (at Bears, at Rams, at Panthers) and a home game against the reigning NFC South champion Buccaneers. While the Saints get a bye in Week 11, they will need to grind out some tough wins prior if they’re going to put themselves in position to surprise some people entering the final two months.

- Early challenges await. The Buccaneers' 2024 season ended with a disappointing playoff loss to the Commanders at home. While they won't get a rematch with Washington in the regular season, they'll have plenty of opportunities to show the rest of the NFL they're on a mission in 2025. Dates with Houston, Philadelphia and Detroit all land within the first seven weeks. If they're searching for tests, they won't have to wait long for them.
- A perfectly placed bye. The Bucs owe the league a tray of cookies for where their bye landed: in Week 9, exactly halfway through the season. It will be a welcome respite after five road games in the first eight weeks and a proper break before embarking on a November journey that includes road trips to face the Bills and Rams.
- Racking up the air miles. Tampa Bay will fly to the West Coast twice in 2025, and both games will present challenges. The Bucs’ first trip will be to Seattle to face the Sam Darnold-led Seahawks on Oct. 5, one week after a meeting with the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles. They’ll return to the West in Week 12 to meet the Los Angeles Rams, who won't take it easy on them, either. They also have road games against the Texans, Lions and Bills. The Bucs aren't flying overseas this season, but they'll spend plenty of time at cruising altitude in 2025.
