Cross off one destination from Aaron Rodgers' list of potential landing spots: the Minnesota Vikings.
While the Vikings remain in the market for a veteran quarterback, they are not pursuing Rodgers, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday.
This leaves Rodgers, 41, with two serious options: the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, per Pelissero.
As for the Vikings, Pelissero reported multiple clubs have called with interest in second-year passer J.J. McCarthy with Minnesota rejecting their overtures, telling teams it's moving forward with McCarthy as its top option, which effectively cements McCarthy as the team's projected starter.
Such a process might have started last season had McCarthy not suffered a meniscus injury in his lone preseason start, which required season-ending surgery and opened an avenue for Sam Darnold to compile a career season, leading to the Seahawks' decision to trade Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders and replace him with Darnold.
Now, the 2024 first-round pick will enter his second season as QB1. Pittsburgh and New York, meanwhile, will continue to wait for Rodgers to decide on his future.
At least one veteran Steeler, All-Pro defensive tackle Cameron Heyward, has already grown tired of waiting for Rodgers to decide, stating on his podcast "either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don't."
Although it would make logistical sense -- Rodgers wouldn't even have to change home stadiums, for example -- there seems to have been less movement on the Giants front.
As is often the case with Rodgers, most of the discussion is built on reporting and supplemented by speculation, which produces prolonged waiting periods. Rodgers is known for taking his time, which he is once again doing in 2025.
Neither the Steelers nor the Giants can afford to wait forever. Pittsburgh has already taken protective measures, welcoming back former backup Mason Rudolph via free agency. New York, meanwhile, hosted Jameis Winston for a visit Tuesday.
Russell Wilson, who started 11 games for the Steelers last season, is also affected by Rodgers' decision because he's seen as the next best option for Pittsburgh and New York, so he's also stuck in limbo.
The Vikings are moving forward with their hopeful franchise QB of the future, while the Rodgers waiting game for the Giants and Steelers carries on.
