Veteran returner Cordarrelle Patterson says Steelers released him on off day

Cordarrelle Patterson will have to search for that 10th kick return touchdown somewhere other than Pittsburgh.

The Steelers released the returner/running back/receiver on Monday.

Patterson spent 2024 with the Steelers, rushing 32 times for 135 yards and catching 12 passes for 80 yards and a score in 13 games played. He also returned 11 kicks.

The former Viking, Raider, Patriot, Bear, Falcon and Steeler owns the kick return touchdown record with nine in his 12-year career. However, he hasn't housed a kickoff since 2022 (the longest drought of his career), and has just one KR TD in the past four seasons.

The Steelers signed running back Kenneth Gainwell this offseason and drafted DB Donte Kent in the seventh round. Both could be kick return options to replace Patterson.
