Trey Hendrickson not with Bengals amid contract impasse as Cincinnati kicks off training camp

The Cincinnati Bengals report for training camp today. Trey Hendrickson will not be there.

The star pass rusher posted a picture from a Florida highway on Instagram on Tuesday morning, indicating his intent to hold out.

The impasse on a long-term contract at this point stems from the amount of guaranteed money the club is offering, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources informed of the situation.

Hendrickson's social media post came a day after owner Mike Brown expressed optimism that a deal could get done. Instead, the 30-year-old returned home.

The Bengals pass rusher led the NFL with 17.5 sacks and 92 QB pressures in 2024, per Next Gen Stats. He has the most sacks in the NFL with 35.0 sacks since 2023.

Hendrickson has been searching for long-term security for several seasons. He's set to make $15.8 million in base salary in the final year of his contract.

The edge rusher market has gone bananas this offseason, from Maxx Crosby's $35.5 million-per-year deal to Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt both hitting the $40 million-plus mark. Watt's recent deal included more than $100 million fully guaranteed. Garrett's deal was worth $88.8 million fully guaranteed, and included more than $123 million in total guarantees.

Skipping training camp practices comes with a mandatory fine of $50,000 per day.
