C.J. Stroud's absence will extend another week.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans ruled out his quarterback on Thursday. Stroud suffered a concussion in Houston's Week 9 loss to Denver and missed the Texans' Week 10 win over Jacksonville.
Safety Jalen Pitre (concussion) and kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn (right quadriceps) also will not play in Houston's Week 11 game against the Tennessee Titans. Pitre also suffered a concussion in the loss to Denver and missed Houston's Week 10 victory.
Davis Mills replaced Stroud in the loss to Denver and started in Week 10, completing 27 of 45 passes for 292 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and one crucial rushing touchdown while leading a wild fourth-quarter comeback effort to defeat the Jaguars and improve Houston's record to 4-5. Kicker Matthew Wright replaced Fairbairn in the contest, converting a 23-yard field goal and his lone extra point attempt.
While there are no guarantees in the NFL, Sunday's date with the 1-8 Titans offers the Texans the best remaining opportunity to provide some injured players with an additional week of rest.
Mills will reprise his role as temporary starter in Nashville on Sunday, while Wright will be expected to continue filling in for Fairbairn.
