Seahawks, LB Ernest Jones agree to 3-year, $33 million extension

In one calendar year, Ernest Jones found himself on three rosters.

He's found a home with the third.

Jones and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms on a three-year, $33 million extension with $15 million guaranteed, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday.

Traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Tennessee Titans last summer, Jones was shipped out again in October to the Seahawks. He flourished quickly in head coach Mike Macdonald's defense, and bringing back Jones was placed highly on general manager John Schneider's agenda.

A 2021 NFL Draft third-round selection of the Rams, Jones started as a rookie in Super Bowl LVI and was sterling to the tune of seven tackles, a sack, three QB hits and two tackles for loss in L.A.'s win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Following two straight seasons with 100-plus tackles, the run-stopper was somewhat stunningly traded by the Rams. After a six-game stop in Tennessee, he was moved again by a struggling club that clearly wasn't looking to re-up with the 'backer in the final year of his rookie deal.

In 10 games for the Seahawks, Jones posted 94 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and two pass breakups. It was clearly a good fit for both parties.

Still just 25 with four seasons under his belt, Jones was No. 25 on Gregg Rosenthal's original Top 101 free agents list, but he's staying put in Seattle and looking to pile up the tackles for seasons to come.
