Redskins reportedly shore up snapping situation with Dearth

WASHINGTON -- The Redskins have reached a contract agreement with veteran long-snapper James Dearth, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Saturday.

The person spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity because the Redskins planned to announce the signing Sunday.

Nick Sundberg has been the only long snapper at training camp for the Redskins, but he has never snapped in a regular-season game and has been inconsistent during practices.

The Redskins didn't re-sign longtime snapper Ethan Albright because they wanted a younger player at the position. Albright is 39, but he never had a bad snap in nine seasons in Washington.

Dearth, 34, spent the past nine seasons with the New York Jets.
