Will Levis was at one time the hopeful future of the Tennessee Titans at quarterback, but that time has passed and he's leaving Nashville.
The No. 33 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Levis is being waived by Tennessee, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday. The team later announced the news.
2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward is now the future of the franchise and his maturation as quarterback the focus. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Levis was supplanted by Mitchell Trubisky as the Titans' backup.
Levis was entering the final season of rookie contract, but his 2023 selection feel like ages ago in Titans years.
He was drafted by general manager Ran Carthon and head coach Mike Vrabel. In 2026, Robert Saleh became Levis' third head coach (fourth if you include interim Mike McCoy), and Mike Borgonzi was technically his second GM. However, Chad Brinker was president of football operations in 2024 and reported directly to ownership, while Brian Callahan was head coach for the majority of Levis' time as a starting signal-caller.
So, Levis' time in Tennessee was one of constant churn off the playing field, and when given his shot to forge ahead with the club in 2023-24, injuries and some bone-headed play derailed his QB1 aspirations.
Levis' first career start was one for the ages, as he threw for four touchdowns and 238 yards in a 28-23 Week 8 win over the Atlanta Falcons in 2023. Unfortunately, it wasn't a foreshadowing of what was to come.
As the season-opening starter for the Titans in 2024, Levis would finish his second season with 13 TDs, 12 interceptions, 41 sacks taken and 10 fumbles. The team went 2-10 when he started, and he was eventually benched. It ushered in the Ward era.
As a rookie, Levis missed time due to an ankle injury. In 2024, he dealt with an AC joint sprain in his right throwing shoulder that forced him to miss multiple games. That same shoulder required surgery in the summer of 2025, knocking him out for the season before it began. Provided he's healthy, Levis' arm is a major plus as long as his decision-making is in line with it.
Levis has remained strong in his belief that he can be a starter in the league. The biggest headline garnered by Levis this offseason was when he proclaimed that there weren't "32 quarterbacks in this league better" than him. The Titans have opined that there are at least a couple better in Tennessee.
With starting experience under his belt, Levis could be seen as a backup upgrade for a few squads. With his age and arm talent, he also could be an attractive makeover project for one of the league's QB gurus.
