Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Browns DE Myles Garrett highlight Players of the Week

Who were the NFL's top stars in Week 12? Each Wednesday, the league unveils its weekly honor roll. See who the Players of the Week are below.

AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Kareem Hunt
Kansas City Chiefs · RB

Kansas City potentially saved its season in Sunday's comeback win against the Indianapolis Colts, and Hunt was a major reason why. The Chiefs put almost their entire running game on the veteran back's shoulders, supplying him with a career-high 30 carries. He responded with 104 yards on the ground, plus another 26 yards on three catches. Though he did lose a fourth-quarter fumble, he crucially rebounded with a touchdown run on the next possession, making it four straight contests with a TD for Hunt.

NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Jahmyr Gibbs
Detroit Lions · RB

Superlatives fail to fully describe the might with which Gibbs played in Week 12. With Detroit trailing throughout a surprisingly tough game against the New York Giants, the third-year running back kicked it into hyperdrive. He broke off multiple massive runs -- none larger than the 69-yard overtime score on the very first play of overtime -- and finished with 219 rushing yards (on 14.6 yards per carry!), the most by a Lions player since Barry Sanders in 1994. Most importantly, he put Detroit on his back to ensure the club kept pace with the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers in the NFC North.

AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Myles Garrett
Cleveland Browns · DE

The 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year might want to start thinking about clearing space on the mantle for another award. Garrett spearheaded a 10-sack effort by Cleveland against the outmatched Las Vegas Raiders, converting three sacks himself with four tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. His trio of takedowns put him at 18 sacks on the season and 14 over his past five games, breaking Michael Strahan's record of 12.5 in a five-game span. Next in Garrett's sights is Strahan's single-season sack record (22.5; shared with T.J. Watt), with six games remaining to make it his.

NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Ji'Ayir Brown
San Francisco 49ers · SAF

San Francisco's injury-ravaged defense keeps finding a way. On Monday night against the Carolina Panthers, it was Brown's turn to step up. He saved the 49ers both early and late with interceptions, keeping the game in hand despite some offensive struggles for Kyle Shanahan's crew. Brown's first INT came on first-and-goal from the 1-yard line, plucking early points away from the Panthers. His second pick came as Carolina was driving with 6:33 left in the final frame to potentially make it a one-possession game. Both were crucial to keep San Francisco right in the thick of the NFC playoff picture.

AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Andres Borregales
New England Patriots · K

When New England's offense stalled, Borregales was there to keep momentum going in a narrow 26-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Patriots scored one offensive touchdown and one defensive touchdown in the first 22 minutes and change of the game. From there, it was all on the leg of the rookie kicker. After converting on both extra-point tries, he booted field goals of 41, 45, 19 and 52 yards to help keep the Pats out in front for their ninth straight victory.

NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Zane Gonzalez
Atlanta Falcons · K

It's been quite the journey for the Falcons at the kicker position this year, going from Younghoe Koo to John Parker Romo to Gonzalez. For the last three games -- and especially on Sunday -- Gonzalez seems to have solidified the position. The 30-year-old hit his only extra-point try and went 3 of 3 on field-goal attempts, all of which came from long range. His makes of 56, 41 and 54 yards helped Atlanta cushion its lead over the New Orleans Saints and end a tortuous five-game losing streak.
