Observations from Dolphins training camp

NFL Network reporter and NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson is in Davie, Fla., covering all things Dolphins. Here are a few of his observations:

1. Kyle Orton watch: As of early Wednesday afternoon, there had been no official word about the veteran quarterback being brought in from Denver to compete with Chad Henne for the Dolphins' starting job. I'm told Miami has no interest in Vince Young and they don't believe Marc Bulger would beat out Henne. Connecting the dots, it sounds like all their eggs are in Orton's basket. And according to my NFL Network colleague Michelle Beisner, a deal is very close to happening.

2. Bumped into Brandon Marshall ... very quickly this morning. It was reported Tuesday that he showed up 90 minutes early and waited in his car until the doors opened. I asked him if it was true. He smiled and said the story was slightly exaggerated, but that he is fired up and ready to go. I know what many people think about his offseason/off-field problems, but he has always had a charisma and fun personality the handful of times I've been around him.

3. Marion Barber in South Beach?:Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are free agents. Second-round draft pick Daniel Thomas of Kansas State has potential as a rookie, but he's probably not ready for every-down, every-week work. I'm hearing Barber could be in play once Dallas cuts him. Bill Parcells always gave a close look to Cowboys he had coached, and the remaining men from the Parcells tree here in Miami might do the same.

4. Tight fit: I spotted linebacker Karlos Dansby really struggling to remove his skin-tight jersey after a PR photo shoot. He looked over and said, "Man, you forget how hard these things are to get OFF!" Here's hoping with 10 years of labor peace, players won't be taking them off again anytime soon.
