Brock Purdy might be out for a little longer than Thursday night.
Purdy is considered week to week and has no timetable for his return from a toe injury that had him inactive for the San Francisco 49ers' Week 5 win against the Los Angeles Rams, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
Purdy aggravated his toe injury during the 49ers' Week 4 loss to the Jaguars, an MRI revealed, according to Rapoport.
"He reaggravated it," head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed after Thursday's game. "He's week to week. Don't know how it will heal."
Mac Jones started for the third time this season in Purdy's absence on Thursday night, leading the 49ers to a dramatic overtime win. Jones, who's dealing with a knee injury, would continue starting under center if he's available and Purdy is unavailable for Week 6 -- or beyond -- against the host Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
After Week 5, the 49ers are 3-0 with Jones starting for Purdy this year.
Purdy, in his fourth NFL season, has completed 48 of 73 passes for 586 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions through two games.
Purdy's bum toe is one of a litany of injuries plaguing San Francisco, which also ruled out wide receivers Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings for Thursday. The 49ers are awaiting the return of Brandon Aiyuk, who is still coming back from a torn ACL last season, and standout defensive end Nick Bosa is out for the year with a torn ACL.
Thusly, the injury news isn't getting more optimistic for the 49ers.
