Niners QB Brock Purdy (shoulder) active for Sunday night game vs. Bills

The ailing San Francisco 49ers will have their starting quarterback under center Sunday.

Brock Purdy, who missed the first start of his career a week prior, is active and set to start for the 49ers on Sunday night against the host Buffalo Bills.

Purdy missed the 49ers' Week 12 loss to the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury and, at the onset of this week, it hardly appeared to be a slam dunk that he'd return in time to face the Bills. Purdy was limited on Wednesday and Thursday, his throwing at practice significantly reduced. He was a full participant on Friday, though, suggesting that he'd be good to go.

Unfortunately for Purdy and the 49ers, the good news on the injury front largely stopped at QB. Purdy will take the field without standout left tackle Trent Williams and starting guard Aaron Banks. The defense will be without Nick Bosa and Deommodore Lenoir.

So far in 2024, Purdy has completed 66% of his passes for 2,613 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He'll be looking to produce with a banged-up offensive line in front of him as the 49ers look to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Sitting at 5-6 following two straight losses, the 49ers currently have just a 17% playoff probability.

Aiming to defy the odds, the Purdy-led 49ers kick off against the Bills (9-2) at 5:20 p.m. ET on Sunday.
