NFL Network: Case Keenum expected to start for Bears vs. Eagles

The Chicago Bears will roll with QB3 versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chicago is expected to start Case Keenum on Monday Night Football, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning.

The news had been trending that way after backup Tyson Bagent spent most of the week in concussion protocol. Starter Caleb Williams was already ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

Bagent was cleared from concussion protocol on Sunday, but took part in only one practice. With his backup missing the game-plan install for a good Eagles defense, Bears coach Ben Johnson will roll with Keenum to start Week 3.

The 38-year-old Keenum hasn't thrown a regular-season pass since two starts with the Houston Texans in December 2023. In his 14th NFL season, Keenum has made 66 career starts, with a 62.3% completion rate, 79 touchdowns and 51 interceptions.

At this stage, having hung around the past couple of years more for his mentorship function, Keenum is an unknown. Clearly, Johnson trusts him to run his complex offense, ensure they're in the right play, and make the proper read. However, we don't know how lively Keenum's arm is or whether his pocket mobility is any good after two seasons out of live action.
