Glimpses of the Jaguars' two-way rookie Travis Hunter lining up on defense during Jacksonville's offseason program have thus far been few and far between.
Provided one on Tuesday, via the Jags' social media team, everyone was treated to a show.
Hunter lined up across from wideout Darius Lassiter and didn't give his fellow rookie an inch of space on his route, then tipped an incoming throw away before re-collecting it while falling to the ground for a jaw-dropping interception.
He made the big catch without pads, in June, but Hunter's sticky coverage and ability to convert a possession-changing snag where others might have come away solely with a deflection is exactly what the Jags want to see at this point.
Jacksonville traded a slew of picks, including its first-rounder next year, in order to move up and take Hunter at No. 2 overall in April's draft because of his ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball.
The Heisman Trophy winner, who split 1,460 snaps between wide receiver and cornerback during his final season at Colorado, started out the offseason at rookie minicamp working strictly on the offensive side of the ball, where he figures to feature most prominently.
Organized team activities afforded him a chance to switch over and take some defensive reps. Head coach Liam Coen indicated on May 28 that Hunter wouldn't practice on both sides during the same session, meaning Tuesday served as a defense-only day.
So far, so good for Hunter, who has now impressed at both of his positions in just a short span.
Perhaps because of the complexity of Hunter undertaking WR and CB responsibilities, he is currently the only top-10 pick from the 2025 class still unsigned.
The Jaguars will work on getting a deal done soon.
In the meantime and hopefully for long after, they'll be watching for more highlights like today from their young star.
