Jaguars sign veteran wide receiver Terrelle Pryor

Terrelle Pryor has landed a new gig.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday afternoon that the Jacksonville Jaguars signed the veteran wide receiver to a one-year deal, per a source informed of the situation. On Monday, the team announced the signing.

Pryor worked out with the Jags on Wednesday, and the team quickly offered him a deal.

The former QB turned WR most recently played for the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets in 2018. He participated in only six games with New York before being jettisoned after catching only 14 balls for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Pryor lasted just two games with the Bills before being cut, catching two passes for 11 yards, and earned zero targets in his second tilt.

Pryor spent time with Jacksonville's new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo when both were in Cleveland in 2015, as the player made the transition from quarterback to receiver. Pryor had one catch for 42 yards that season.

Pryor had one breakout year with the Cleveland Browns in 2016, catching 77 passes for 1,007 yards in 16 games the year after DeFilippo left. Since then, a rash of injuries, drop problems, and inefficiency have waylaid the receiver's career.

Turning 30 years old next month, Pryor still owns the size at 6-foot-4 and athleticism if he can stay healthy and it all meshes. Right now, that's a big if.

The Jags certainly can use playmaking help for quarterback Nick Foles alongside Dede Westbrook, Marqise Lee and Keelan Cole. Pryor could push bigger receivers like free-agent addition Chris Conley or D.J. Chark for snaps. First, the veteran will have to make the squad during training camp.

After not topping the 260-yard mark for two straight seasons while dealing with injury and inconsistency, it's questionable what impact Pryor can make. But if it all clicks, he could prove to be a worthwhile flier in Jacksonville.
