Inside Training Camp: Highlights, buzz from Tuesday, July 29

NFL.com provides highlights and buzz below from Tuesday's training camps across the league.

Golden a future WR1?

The Green Bay Packers finally fulfilled their fans' wishes when they spent a first-round pick on a receiver in 2025.

That selection, Texas product Matthew Golden, is starting to turn heads at Packers camp. Golden made an excellent grab by winning position in a one-on-one drill Tuesday and hauled in a pass to the delight of Packers fans.

Asked afterward about the rookie, Jordan Love had plenty of good things to say.

"I think that's one of his specialties that I've seen so far is just the aggressiveness in his hands and always trying to high point the ball," Love said after practice, via The Athletic. "He's got very strong hands and he's able to go up and be able to compete for that ball. I think that's one of those things that's going to separate him."

Love added: "He's been doing a great job. He's been in the book," Love said of Golden. "He's been getting more comfortable with knowing where he needs to be. Let's just keep building that. But I think the playmaking ability is there, you can see that. When the ball is in the air he's going to go get it and make that play."

Golden certainly made a play Tuesday and sees many more in his future.

"I'm used to making plays like that," he said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal. "If the ball is in anywhere close to me, my mindset is to go get it no matter where the DB is. I feel like that's something in my game. Even though I'm not the biggest on the field, but I got the mindset to go get the ball. For me, that's a big part of my game. I can make contested catches, I can adjust to the ball well."

Have Lions located Ragnow's replacement?

Frank Ragnow's retirement forced the Lions to get creative with their starting offensive line entering this season.

Their first choice: Move Graham Glasgow from guard to center. So far, so good.

Coach Dan Campbell told reporters Tuesday the change is working well for the Lions offense, which has looked promising with Glasgow manning the starting pivot.

"We just finished two days with Graham back at center in pads, and it's looked pretty good," Campbell said. "It's looked pretty dang good. I think every day that it looks pretty dang good, it gets a little clearer."

Shifting Glasgow to center required replacing him at guard, for which Detroit prepared by selecting Georgia lineman Tate Ratledge in the second round of April's draft. Lions fans will have to wait a week to see Ratledge (and first-round defensive tackle Tyleik Williams) in game action, though, as Campbell revealed Detroit will hold their first two picks out of action in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers.

"We've talked about it as a staff and it's like 'why don't we just wait, maybe play them in Atlanta (on Aug. 8)?' " Campbell said, per the Detroit Free Press. "So we'll hold tight, make sure they get plenty of reps out here (in practice)."

Campbell's decision to sit Williams and Ratledge suggests his staff is preparing for both rookies to play important roles in Detroit's 2025 campaign. With offseason losses at both position groups, their success may be vital to the Lions' hopes of surpassing their 2024 finish.

McMillan hauls in pretty pass in Tampa

The hierarchy within the Buccaneers' receiving corps is one of the top things to monitor in Tampa Bay during camp. Rookie Emeka Egbuka has garnered a fair share of early buzz with his play, but on Tuesday second-year pro Jalen McMillan flashed on a deep ball from Baker Mayfield.

2019 first-rounder returning to form with Raiders

Devin White's fall from excellence is finished. White is heading in the opposite direction, according to his new coach in Las Vegas, Pete Carroll.

"He's back," Carroll told reporters after Tuesday's practice, per Levi Edwards of Raiders.com. "He was on top of the world a few years ago. … He's back in action."

White was a second-team All-Pro in 2020 and a Pro Bowler in 2021, but found himself losing snaps to K.J. Britt in 2023 and ended up leaving Tampa entirely after that season. His 2024 season spent between Philadelphia and Houston saw him start just one game with the Texans and record 19 tackles in what was perhaps not the most ideal situation for him to get back on track.

Carroll believes White has found one in Las Vegas. White is hoping to prove him right.

"I feel comfortable, I feel healthy, I feel thankful, and I feel hungry," White said. "If me going out there and having fun with my teammates is me being back, I’m glad to be back.”
