Injuries: Michael Gallup (knee) to miss 2 to 4 weeks

The New England Patriots blew the Miami Dolphins out of the water Sunday but are now holding their collective breath that they didn't lose a valuable member of the offensive line for a significant amount of time.

Left tackle Isaiah Wynn suffered a toe injury Sunday and is expected to undergo an MRI on Monday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. The severity of the injury is not yet clear, but if it ends up as turf toe, the issue could linger, Rapoport added.

Wynn left Sunday's 43-0 shellacking after just 11 snaps and did not return.

The second-year left tackle looked stellar on Tom Brady's blindside in Week 1, and solid throughout the preseason. Wynn is coming off an Achilles' injury that wiped out his entire rookie season.

With right tackle Marcus Cannon (shoulder) already banged up, Wynn's absence would be another blow to the Patriots' blocking unit if he has to miss significant time.

Other injuries we're monitoring around the league on Monday:

  1. Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku suffered a concussion after an awkward fall in the first quarter of Monday's game vs. the Jets. The team said he will not return against New York.

New York Jets wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was active in his first game for Gang Green but was ruled out in the second half with a hamstring injury.  Linebacker Jordan Jenkins suffered a calf injury in the first quarter of Monday's game and is doubtful to return, the team announced.

  1. The Cleveland Browns' inactives for their Week 2 matchup against the Jets are: LB Genard Avery, C Austin Corbett, WR Rashard Higgins, RB Dontrell Hillard, T Kendall Lamm, S Damarious Randall, LB Adarius Taylor.

The New York Jets' inactives are: QB Sam Darnold, OT Chuma Edoga, LB John Franklin-Myers, LB C.J. Mosley, RB Bilal Powell, DL Quinnen Williams, DL Jordan Willis.

New York also promoted quarterback Luke Falk from the practice squad. He'll serve as Trevor Siemian's backup Monday night against the Browns. The second-year QB spent the 2018 season with the Dolphins but did not appear in a game.

  1. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup is having arthroscopic surgery to trim his meniscus, Rapoport reports. Gallup will be out two to four weeks.
  1. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will undergo surgery on his throwing elbow and miss the remainder of the season, the team announced. He was placed on injured reserve while the team promoted Devlin Hodges from the practice squad.

There was some good injury news out of Pittsburgh, however, as running back James Conner told 93.7 The Fan that he's confident he'll be good to go this Sunday when the Steelers face the 49ers. Conner missed the end of Pittsburgh's loss to the Seahawks with a knee injury.

  1. Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Tim Jernigan suffered an apparent broken foot in Sunday night's loss to the Falcons, Rapoport reports. Jernigan is expected to be sidelined for at least a month, per Rapoport.

Running back Corey Clement (shoulder) had an MRI today and is likely out a week or two, Rapoport reported.

ReceiversAlshon Jeffrey (calf), DeSean Jackson (groin) and tight end Dallas Goedert (calf) all suffered injuries last night. Doug Pederson told reporters he does not have an update on their statuses or the severity of the injuries.

Rapoport later reported the Jeffrey is dealing with a calf strain. It is not considered a major injury, but Rapoport adds that Jeffrey's status for Weeks 3 and 4 is in doubt.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs running back LeSean McCoy suffered an ankle injury late Sunday and will have an MRI today to determine the severity of the injury, Rapoport reports.
  1. Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee was initially diagnosed with chest injury but after heading to the hospital as a precaution, it was determined he sustained a lung injury, which caused him to cough up blood, per Rapoport. Higbee might miss time but it is not considered to be significant, Rapoport adds.

Sean McVay announced TE Tyler Higbee (chest) and right guard Austin Blythe (ankle are day-to-day going into Week 3.

  1. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will have surgery for a torn ligament in his throwing thumb, Rapoport reported. He'll be out a minimum of six weeks and could be placed on injured reserve, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero added.

The Saints are also placing linebacker Alex Anzalone (shoulder) on injured reserve, but he is a candidate to return later this season.

  1. Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was listed as being out with a quad injury on Monday's estimated practice report.
  1. Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson and his wrist checked out fine today, per Rapoport. He injured it on Sunday, but did return to the game.
  1. Green Bay Packers coach Matt La Fleur told reporters Matt safety Raven Greene (ankle) will miss Week 3 against the Broncos.
  1. Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich said linebacker Darius Leonard is in the concussion protocol after symptoms arose following Indianapolis' win over the Titans on Sunday.

Cornerback Pierre Desir is not expected to miss much time, if any, following tests and scans on his injured knee, per Rapoport. He suffered a bone bruise Sunday.

  1. Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden told reporters running back Josh Jacobs is dealing with a groin issue and wide receiver Tyrell Williams has a hip pointer.
  1. The Browns placed quarterback Drew Stanton on injured reserve with a knee injury, per Rapoport. Stanton's plan going into the season was for 2019 to be his final one and he'll continue to mentor Baker Mayfield, Rapoport added.
  1. Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn said tests came back "clean" on offensive tackle Kaleb McGary's knee. The rookie lineman exited in the first half of Atlanta's win over the Eagles but returned in the fourth quarter.
  1. San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed to reporters that left tackle Joe Staley will miss six to eight weeks. Staley suffered a broken fibula in Sunday's win over Cincinnati. Justin Skule will replace Staley at left tackle.
