Playing in his NFL debut, it's hard to imagine a worse start for Malcolm Mitchell.
The Patriots' fourth-round pick out of Georgia suffered an elbow subluxation during Thursday's preseason win over the Saints, a source informed of the injury told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. X-rays on Mitchell's left elbow were negative and his elbow needed to pop back into place after he landed on it awkwardly in the first half. Pending an MRI, Mitchell is expected to miss roughly four weeks, Rapoport added.
Mitchell is scheduled to undergo an MRI next, according to Rapoport.
Here are the rest of the injuries we are monitoring Thursday:
- The Bills don't play their first preseason game until Saturday, but the team still suffered a potential big loss on the injury front.
Safety Aaron Williams was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion, the team announced, after he collided with a teammate at practice Thursday. Some Buffalo players dropped to a knee to pray for their teammate, according to reporters on the field.
The other player involved, wideout Dez Lewis, also suffered an undisclosed injury in the collision.
- The Eagles announced Brandon Brooks (right bicep) was one drive and done Thursday night. After playing the first series against the Buccaneers, he briefly stood on the sideline. However, he headed to the locker room shortly after. Fellow guard Josh Andrews (right ankle) was taken in for X-rays and did not return either.
- Tight end Brandon Myers was ruled out for the remainder of the game by the Buccaneers after he was seen limping off the field and did not return.
- Jacksonville's wideouts have put on a show against the Jets, but one got dinged up. Tony Washington was evaluated for a concussion, and didn't return to the field.
Jaguars strong safety James Sample (arm stringer) left in the second half and didn't return.
- New York Jets coach Todd Bowles said running back Dominique Williams suffered a concussion in win over Jaguars.
- Wideout Brenton Bersin did not return for the Panthers against the Ravens after suffering a rib injury.
- Baltimore Ravens cornerback Kyle Arrington underwent concussion protocol and did not return to the team's win over the Panthers.
- Chicago Bears running back Ka'Deem Carey was under evaluation for a possible concussion. Rookie DB DeAndre Houston-Carson suffered a neck injury, while defensive lineman Cornelius Washington left with a knee/ankle injury, coach John Fox told reporters.
- New Orleans Saints linebacker Stephone Anthony suffered an undisclosed injury at the end of the first half against the Patriots and did not return. Saints coach Sean Payton provided no post-game update about the former first-round draft pick's condition.
