The New York Giants announced Thursday that they have waived wide receiver/kick returner Domenik Hixon, the first step toward putting him on season-ending injured reserve if he isn't claimed by another team, the *Newark Star-Ledger* reported.
Hixon, who suffered a season-ending right anterior cruciate ligament tear during the Giants' first practice at New Meadowlands Stadium, is only signed through the 2010 season. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported that several general managers he spoke to are "mulling" the option of picking up Hixon and paying him about $1.7 million this coming season.
Hixon had 15 catches for 187 yards and one touchdown last season, but he made his mark on special teams, where he averaged 22.6 yards per kick return and 15.1 yards per punt return.
The Star-Ledger reported that the Giants replaced Hixon on the 80-man roster with special teams player Adam Jennings, who played last season and part of 2008 with the Detroit Lions.
