The extended window before the start of the 2026 NFL season provides opportunity for a little extra bulletin board material.
New York Giants cornerback Greg Newsome II, as complimentary as he was while doing so, might have provided some for the Dallas Cowboys ahead of their prime-time Week 1 matchup.
Asked Wednesday about squaring off against Dallas wide receivers George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, Newsome showered them with praise despite maintaining complete confidence in Big Blue's defensive abilities.
"He's great at the catch point," Newsome said of Pickens, via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. "That's something he's been great at since he got in the league is just being able to make the tough catches. You've got number 88, CeeDee, he can line up anywhere, do a lot of great things."
Newsome added: "Definitely great players, but I like our chances."
Newsome, of course, is no stranger to Pickens -- though the pass catcher previously described the corner as one.
In 2024, when Newsome was with the Cleveland Browns and Pickens played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the two were involved in a scuffle on the final play of a Week 12 upset by Cleveland. When asked about Newsome a few weeks later, Pickens told reporters, "I don't even know who that is."
Newsome, who had, in fact, played in the same division as Pickens for three seasons at that point, fired back that Pickens was a guy "who cares about himself" rather than his team.
Two years later, Newsome and Pickens find themselves as divisional opponents once again.
The Cowboys boast one of the league's most explosive offenses, in large part thanks to the duo of Pickens and Lamb, while the Giants' defense is hoping to rediscover respectability under new coach John Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson after finishing 26th in points allowed last season.
Newsome, a newcomer to New York, has full faith in the Giants doing just that.
Shutting down the Cowboys' passing attack in the Sunday Night Football opener would go a long way in proving it.
