Fantasy injury report: Week 3

The following is a list of injured players for Week 3 (September 23-24) and the fantasy implications of all the major injuries:

Arizona Cardinals
Out: C Al Johnson (knee); Questionable: DT Alan Branch (hand).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.

Atlanta Falcons
Out: TE Dwayne Blakley (pectoral), DT Roderick Coleman (knee); Questionable: T Wayne Gandy (hamstring); Probable: DE John Abraham (quadriceps), S Chris Crocker (knee), WR Laurent Robinson (hamstring).

Fantasy take: The Falcons are a bit dinged on defense, which is good news for Carolina's offensive skill position players.

Baltimore Ravens
Out: T Jonathan Ogden (toe), DT Trevor Pryce (wrist); Doubtful: TE Daniel Wilcox (ankle); Questionable: RB Justin Green (thigh), CB Samari Rolle (illness); Probable: T Jared Gaither (knee), CB Corey Ivy (thigh), QB Steve McNair (groin), CB David Pittman (ankle), S Gerome Sapp (foot), LB Gary Stills (knee), TE Quinn Sypniewski (neck) .

Fantasy take: McNair will start vs. Arizona, but he's not a recommended option in most fantasy formats.

Buffalo Bills
Out: DE Ryan Denney (foot), LB Keith Ellison (ankle), LB Coy Wire (knee); Questionable: WR Sam Aiken (groin), G Brad Butler (shoulder), CB Terrence McGee (ribs), CB Ashton Youboty (hip); Probable: WR Josh Reed (thigh).

Fantasy take: Reed should return to action in Week 3, but he warrants little fantasy consideration. The Bills defense is riddled with injuries, which is good news for the Patriots offensive skill position players.

Carolina Panthers
Doubtful: LB Adam Seward (calf); Probable: S Deke Cooper (thigh), DE Stanley McClover (thigh).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.

Chicago Bears
Probable: DE Alex Brown (ankle), C Olin Kreutz (ankle), P Brad Maynard (groin), LB Brian Urlacher (back).

Fantasy take: The Bears have some injuries on defense, but this unit should remain active in Week 3 vs. Dallas. Greg Olsen (knee) is not on the report and will return to action, barring setbacks.

Cincinnati Bengals
Out: LB Rashad Jeanty (shin), S Ethan Kilmer (knee), WR Tab Perry (hamstring); Doubtful: LB Ahmad Brooks (groin), C Eric Ghiaciuc (thumb), LB Lemar Marshall (groin); Questionable: T Willie Anderson (foot), WR Antonio Chatman (hamstring), S Nedu Ndukwe (hamstring); Probable: WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh (knee), S Dexter Jackson (back), CB Deltha O'Neal (knee), DE Bryan Robinson (foot), DE Frostee Rucker (hamstring).

Fantasy take: Houshmandzadeh will be fine for Week 3 and should be active vs. Seattle. The Bengals defense could be in trouble if Brooks and Marshall are out, which would be good news for the Seahawks' offensive skill position players. Chatman (if active) and Glenn Holt will see more work with Perry on the sidelines.

Cleveland Browns
Out: LB Willie McGinest (back); Doubtful: S Gary Baxter (knees), P Dave Zastudil (back); Questionable: S Mike Adams (wrist), CB Leigh Bodden (groin), S Brodney Pool (concussion), G Isaac Sowells (personal); Probable: LB Antwan Peek (foot).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.

Dallas Cowboys
Out: LB Greg Ellis (Achilles), WR Terry Glenn (knee); Questionable: CB Terence Newman (foot); Probable: RB Oliver Hoyte (neck).

Fantasy take: WR Patrick Crayton will continue to start in the absence of Glenn. Newman's return would help the value of the Dallas defense.

Denver Broncos
Out: S Hamza Abdullah (hip), G Ben Hamilton (concussion), T Ryan Harris (back); Questionable: TE Stephen Alexander (calf), CB Domonique Foxworth (ankle); Probable: CB Dre' Bly (shoulder).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.

Detroit Lions
Out: TE Dan Campbell (elbow), LB Anthony Cannon (quadriceps), RB T.J. Duckett (ankle); Questionable: DE Kalimba Edwards (ankle), RB Kevin Jones (foot); Probable: T Jeff Backus (knee), DT Shaun Rogers (knee).

Fantasy take: Jones is expected to return in Week 3, albeit on a limited basis. He will see 15-20 snaps vs. Philadelphia. RB Tatum Bell will continue to start, at least for now.

Green Bay Packers
Out: DE Mike Montgomery (knee); Doubtful: RB Vernand Morency (knee); Questionable: LB Desmond Bishop (shoulder); Probable: T Chad Clifton (ankle), TE Bubba Franks (knee), CB Al Harris (back), DE Cullen Jenkins (wrist), WR Greg Jennings (hamstring), DT Johnny Jolly (heel), WR James Jones (hamstring), DE Aaron Kampman (rib), T Tony Moll (neck), S Aaron Rouse (hamstring), G Jason Spitz (calf), DT Corey Williams (ankle), CB Charles Woodson (hip).

Fantasy take: Donald Lee would see more work at tight end if Franks is out in Week 3. Morency continues to battle an injured knee, so Brandon Jackson and DeShawn Wynn will share the backfield work. Jennings will start opposite WR Donald Driver with Jones moving back to the third spot on the depth chart.

Houston Texans
Out: WR Andre Johnson (knee); Questionable: CB Fred Bennett (thigh), DE Earl Cochran (knee), RB Ron Dayne (chest); Probable: RB Ahman Green (knee), DE Ndukwe Kalu (hand).

Fantasy take: Johnson will not be active in Week 3, so Kevin Walter and rookie Jacoby Jones will start vs. Indianapolis. Green returned to full practice on Friday and should be fine for fantasy owners.

Indianapolis Colts
Questionable: TE Dallas Clark (neck), T Ryan Diem (neck), LB Rob Morris (abdomen).

Fantasy take: Clark practiced with no issues on Friday and should be active vs. Houston.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Out: C Brad Meester (ankle), K Josh Scobee (right quadriceps); Doubtful: DT John Henderson (head); Probable: TE Greg Estandia (illness), LB Clint Ingram (ankle), WR Matt Jones (heel), DT Tony McDaniel (knee), G Chris Naeole (back), CB Brian Williams (ankle).

Fantasy take: Scobee is out several weeks. The Jaguars signed John Carney to replace him, but Carney has limited fantasy value at this time. Jones should be active but has no real value outside of larger leagues. The potential loss of Henderson makes the Jaguars defense a bit less attractive.

Kansas City Chiefs
Out: WR Eddie Kennison (hamstring); Probable: S Jon McGraw (hamstring), T Damion McIntosh (knee).

Fantasy take: Samie Parker and rookie Dwayne Bowe should start in the absence of Kennison, but neither should be active in most fantasy leagues.

Miami Dolphins
Out: S Donovin Darius (calf), LB Zach Thomas (concussion); Probable: QB Trent Green (ankle), G Rex Hadnot (shoulder).

Fantasy take: Thomas missed practice all week. LB Channing Crowder becomes a solid option for IDP owners in his absence.

Minnesota Vikings
Doubtful: QB Tarvaris Jackson (groin), RB Tony Richardson (forearm); Questionable: S Darren Sharper (hip), S Dwight Smith (hamstring), RB Chester Taylor (hip), WR Troy Williamson (hamstring); Probable: S Mike Doss (calf).

Fantasy take: Jackson is expected to miss Week 3, so either Kelly Holcomb or Brooks Bollinger will start vs. Kansas City. Reports out of Minnesota suggest Holcomb is the favorite. Taylor is expected to be active in Detroit, but he's a risk for fantasy owners. With or without Taylor, RB Adrian Peterson is a fantastic starting option in Week 3.

New England Patriots
Questionable: G Steve Neal (shoulder), WR Donte' Stallworth (knee), WR Kelley Washington (hamstring), S Eugene Wilson (ankle), G Billy Yates (shoulder); Probable: QB Tom Brady (right shoulder).

Fantasy take: Brady returned to practice and Friday and will be fine to face Buffalo. He is a fabulous starter for owners in Week 3. Stallworth has done nothing and should be reserved even if he's active.

New Orleans Saints
Out: S Jay Bellamy (ankle); Questionable: DT Kendrick Clancy (toe); Probable: S Josh Bullocks (knee).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.

New York Giants
Out: RB Brandon Jacobs (knee), WR Steve Smith (shoulder); Questionable: WR Plaxico Burress (ankle); Probable: CB Kevin Dockery (ankle), QB Jared Lorenzen (ankle), WR David Tyree (wrist), LB Gerris Wilkinson (knee).

Fantasy take: RB Derrick Ward will continue to start in place of Jacobs and is a viable fantasy flex option. Burress could be a game-time decision and will be a risk for some owners since the Giants play at 4pm EST.

New York Jets
Questionable: WR Jerricho Cotchery (shoulder), CB Andre Dyson (foot), G Brandon Moore (shoulder), QB Chad Pennington (ankle), DT Dewayne Robertson (knee), S Eric Smith (thigh); Probable: CB David Barrett (thigh), LB David Bowens (hand), RB Thomas Jones (calf), TE Joe Kowalewski (shoulder), RB Stacy Tutt (foot).

Fantasy take: Keep tabs on the status of Cotchery, who injured his shoulder last week. Pennington was limited on Friday, but he is expected to start in Week 3. Jones practiced without issues, so his calf should be closer to 100 percent.

Oakland Raiders
Out: LB Isaiah Ekejiuba (foot); Questionable: DE Derrick Burgess (calf), C Jeremy Newberry (hamstring), CB Duane Starks (groin); Probable: RB LaMont Jordan (back), QB Josh McCown (foot).

Fantasy take: Keep tabs on Jordan, who has had back issues this week and could be a game-time decision. However, reports out of Oakland suggest he will start vs. Cleveland. McCown is expected to start and is a viable low-end sleeper in Week 3.

Philadelphia Eagles
Out: TE L.J. Smith (groin); Doubtful: CB Lito Sheppard (knee); Questionable: S Brian Dawkins (neck), RB Brian Westbrook (knee); Probable: K David Akers (left quadriceps), WR Hank Baskett (back), S Sean Considine (knee), WR Kevin Curtis (quadriceps), QB A.J. Feeley (left hand), DE Jevon Kearse (shoulder), T Tra Thomas (back).

Fantasy take: Westbrook had an MRI on his knee earlier in the week, but he practiced without limitations on Friday and should start in Week 3. Smith had surgery on Friday and is out vs. Detroit, so Brent Celek and Matt Schobel will split time in his absence. The Eagles defense has several injuries and is not a recommended option.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Out: TE Matt Spaeth (quadriceps).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.

San Diego Chargers
Out: WR Eric Parker (toe); Doubtful: LB Matt Wilhelm (calf); Questionable: T Shane Olivea (back); Probable: LB Stephen Cooper (neck), S Clinton Hart (hamstring).

Fantasy take: WR Craig Davis will continue to start in the absence of Parker, who is out several weeks.

San Francisco 49ers
Out: LB Manny Lawson (knee); Questionable: WR Jason Hill (hamstring); Probable: TE Billy Bajema (ankle), WR Arnaz Battle (groin), C Eric Heitmann (ankle), WR Darrell Jackson (back), S Michael Lewis (ribs).

Fantasy take: Lawson is out for the season with a torn ACL. Jackson will start but is not a recommended option vs. Pittsburgh.

Seattle Seahawks
Out: WR D.J. Hackett (ankle), TE Bennie Joppru (ankle), Doubtful: RB Maurice Morris (hip), WR Ben Obomanu (hamstring); Questionable: LB Kevin Bentley (back); Probable: RB Shaun Alexander (wrist), T Sean Locklear (knee).

Fantasy take: WR Nate Burleson will continue to start in the absence of Hackett, but his value is limited to larger formats. RB Alvin Pearman will spell Alexander in the absence of Morris, who is expected to miss his second consecutive week.

St. Louis Rams
Out: CB Tye Hill (back); Doubtful: C Richie Incognito (ankle); Questionable: LB Pisa Tinoisamoa (ankle); Probable: QB Marc Bulger (ribs), G Claude Terrell (thigh).

Fantasy take: The loss of Hill, who is out several weeks, will hurt the Rams defensive backfield. Bulger is fine and should start vs. Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Questionable: DE Patrick Chukwurah (knee), WR Ike Hilliard (ankle), CB Brian Kelly (groin).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.

Tennessee Titans
Out: TE Casey Cramer (hamstring); Questionable: CB Cortland Finnegan (hamstring), P Craig Hentrich (back); Probable: C Kevin Mawae (knee).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.

Washington Redskins
Out: G Randy Thomas (triceps); Questionable: S Vernon Fox (groin), CB Fred Smoot (hamstring); Probable: DE Phillip Daniels (foot).

Fantasy take: No significant injuries.
