Duke won't be distraction for Jarvis Landry, Browns

Lofty expectations and plenty of pressure await Jarvis Landry and the Cleveland Browns in 2019.

The standout wide receiver isn't about to shirk those aspirations or let anything divert his eyes from the prize.

Aside from all the quandaries regarding the hype surrounding these new-age Browns, the only real negative chatter that has lingered has been in regards to running back Duke Johnson, who's hoping to be traded out of Cleveland. But that's not going to trip up Landry or his teammates.

"It will not be a distraction," Landry told Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. "Our focus is pretty clear. We want to win a championship and the guys that are here, that's going to help us do that. We start on Thursday. Let's get it done."

While training camp opens this week, Landry, Odell Beckham and quarterback Baker Mayfield have already spent time together in California working on chemistry, timing and their overall games. Also reportedly on hand were receiver Rashard Higgins and tight ends David Njoku and Seth DeValve.

"We ran routes pretty much the whole week leading up until Mayfield's wedding," Landry said. "We had the whole group there.

"I think, obviously, it's getting a little bit of timing down, but for the most part, it's being around each other, catching up, talking."

In 2018, Landry made it to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl after tallying 81 catches for 976 yards and four touchdowns. He'll reunite with former LSU teammate Beckham on the field with Mayfield chucking it to them and many predict a dynamic offense will be had.

Of course the season officially kicking off is still more than a month away. First comes training camp and that's what Landry's amped for as he keeps his focus crystal clear.

"Excited, ready to go," he said. "Obviously I'm a football player. I'm excited to see the guys get back into the locker room, back into the routine."

Hard to think anything will be all that routine for the 2019 Browns, though.
