Dolphins re-sign quarterback Matt Moore

Ryan Tannehill's backup has returned.

The Dolphins have announced the signing of veteran Matt Moore, who has been with the team since 2011.

The 30-year-old last logged significant minutes back in 2011, having thrown just 29 passes in the three years since. The signing is a solid one for the Dolphins, who will lock down one of the best backup options in football for another season.

In a market starved for quarterbacks, we're surprised Moore, a mobile quarterback with a career completion percentage near 60, hasn't gotten more of a look.

Despite an 11-12 career record as a starter, Moore has never been in a fantastic system that highlighted his skills. At the least, though, he provides Joe Philbin with some peace of mind heading into the opener.

Moore's signing likely means that the Dolphins have opted not to go with Tarvaris Jackson, who came to Miami for a free agent visit on Thursday.
