Darren Waller is returning to the NFL.
The New York Giants are sending Waller and a 2027 conditional seventh-round draft pick to the Miami Dolphins for a 2026 sixth-round selection, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per sources informed of the trade.
Waller, 32, retired last offseason in June after eight NFL seasons. In his career, Waller has 350 receptions, 4,124 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns, including one Pro Bowl nod. He'll now unretire and be playing in the AFC East after spending one year away from the game.
Miami acquiring Waller is a surprise after the Dolphins traded TE Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey to Pittsburgh for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick on Monday.
Waller recently informed the Giants that he wanted to play again specifically only for Miami, Pelissero added. He got his wish and will now join a dynamic offense featuring Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane.
The Dolphins' current tight end room includes Pharaoh Brown, Jalin Conyers and Julian Hill.
Waller will get a chance to go against one of his former teams this season when Miami hosts the Ravens in Week 9.
Miami will have the opportunity to see its newest addition when training camp starts on July 22.
