The Jacksonville Jaguars will have to continue to be patient with free-agent addition Dekoda Watson.
The Florida Times-Union reported Thursday that the linebacker could begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing sports hernia surgery. Watson has been dealing with a groin issue that kept him out of the entirety of Jacksonville's offseason program.
A source told the Times-Union that Watson underwent the procedure in late June. He is expected to be ready for Week 1.
Watson -- formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- signed a three-year, $6.25 million deal on the second day of free agency. He is expected to be a key player in Gus Bradley's defense, playing in the newly created "Otto" role as a hybrid defender who lines up on the line of scrimmage.
Second-year linebacker LaRoy Reynolds should continue to see first-team reps in Watson's absence.
