Dallas is kicking the tires on a hometown product which could supplement a need on offense.
Free-agent wide receiver Zay Jones is visiting the Cowboys on Wednesday, the team announced. Jones' visit comes on the same day Dallas released Martavis Bryant, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per a source.
Jones, who grew up and played high school ball in Dallas, was released by the Jaguars last week after two seasons with the club. The 29-year-old is coming off an injury-laden campaign which limited him to nine games (34 receptions, 321 yards), but he recently produced career-high numbers during his first season in Jacksonville with 82 receptions for 823 yards and five touchdowns.
Dallas saw first-hand how effective Jones can be when healthy during that career-best season in 2022, when the dynamic, 6-foot-2 wideout scored a career-high three TDs versus the Cowboys (six catches, 109 yards) in a high-scoring win for Jacksonville.
The Cowboys are apparently looking to find an replacement for Michael Gallup, whose release came at the behest of salary-cap solvency this offseason. Gallup served as a viable third option for quarterback Dak Prescott behind CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks, but early-career injuries ultimately marred the initial promise shown by the former third-round pick.
Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin, Jalen Brooks and sixth-round rookie Ryan Flournoy currently round out the WR depth chart in Dallas, but Jones' experience alone would be considered an upgrade.
Jones had previously visited the Titans and Cardinals before going to Dallas today. Tennessee has since signed veteran receiver Tyler Boyd, which figures to signal the Titans' decision on the wide receiver front as teams begin gearing up for OTAs.
