The Colts' quarterback battle has been one of the major NFL storylines to watch this offseason.
Safety Camryn Bynum believes it could bring out the best out of both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
"I think this is a great scenario for any quarterback to be in," Bynum told NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero and Senior National Columnist Judy Battista this week on The Insiders. "Obviously, it's an uncomfortable spot because you're competing for one spot, but as a competitor, that's what you want. You don't want things given to you, so both quarterbacks are in there grinding, trying to earn their way to be the starter this year. Both are looking extremely well and playing well in the spring.
"So, I'm excited to see how it plays out, but no matter what, as a player on this defense, being able to go up against them, they're giving us challenges. I think no matter who the team picks, and who the leadership picks at quarterback as the starter this season, I'm confident in both."
Richardson has had a tough time staying healthy in his first two seasons. This offseason, he's dealt with a shoulder injury that forced him to miss minicamp. It allowed Jones to work with the starters before training camp and preseason while Richardson recovered.
Meanwhile, Jones has put himself back in position to earn another starting job. He was released from the Giants during the 2024 campaign midway through his sixth season with the team. He eventually signed with the Vikings' practice squad and served as a backup to Sam Darnold toward the end of the season.
Whoever comes out of camp as QB1, Bynum believes in the work both signal-callers have put in thus far to prove ready to lead the 2025 Colts.
Bynum, 27, signed a four-year deal with the Colts after four seasons in Minnesota, meaning he had time to see Jones up close last season, as well.
The veteran safety, who said he spent some time training with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao this offseason, joins a unit commanded by new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.
In 2024, the Colts ranked 29th in total defense, but Bynum has faith in Anarumo and with the new players on the roster that Indy's defense can be a force this season to better support whoever leads the way on the other side.
"I just think we have a solid team overall," he said. "Just every position. You can look and see that there's amazing players at every spot -- offense and defense. And for me, I'm biased, looking at the defense I expect a lot out of us with the new DC, with coach Lou being there and just bringing the defense he's bringing with the aggressive play-style and especially the guys up front.
"We got pass rushers for days, we got linebackers, our secondary is looking really good, so I just expect a lot out of us. Just the hunger I saw from every single person during OTAs and during the mandatory minicamp."
Bynum and Colts veterans report to training camp on July 22.
