Best and worst 2016 NFL Draft picks: NFC West

This week, College Football 24/7 takes a look at the best and worst picks in the 2016 NFL Draft for every team, continuing today with the AFC West and NFC West teams:

Arizona Cardinals

Best pick:Robert Nkemdiche, DT (Round 1, No. 29 overall)
Skinny: Nkemdiche's talent warrants a much earlier pick than a late first-rounder, but he fell there for a reason. Nkemdiche's maturity is a concern for some teams, but Arizona might have the type of leadership in the locker room to help guide Nkemdiche. If that happens, the Cardinals could be looking at another Darnell Dockett in his prime.

Worst pick:Cole Toner, OT (Round 5, No. 170 overall)
Skinny: It's nitpicking to call a fifth-rounder at a position in need of depth a "worst pick", but Toner fits the bill for this exercise. Toner is expected to compete for the swing-tackle spot, but does he have the necessary strength to play in the league? I have some doubts.

Los Angeles Rams

Best pick:Tyler Higbee, TE (Round 4, No. 110 overall)
Skinny: As I covered in a previous post, my appreciation for this pick rests with the value of it and also the fit. Jared Goff is in need of a reliable target to grow with, and I could see him developing a bond with a fellow rookie like Higbee, who also happens to be difficult to cover.

Worst pick:Josh Forrest, LB (Round 6, No. 190 overall)
Skinny: Forrest was productive at Kentucky, but also had lapses in awareness and instincts that are likely to show up on an NFL field. He posted disappointing testing numbers during his workouts.

San Francisco 49ers

Best pick:DeForest Buckner, DT (Round 1, No. 7 overall)
Skinny: The 49ers' original rise to prominence occurred when they began to build along their offensive and defensive lines. Buckner follows the 2015 first-round selection of former college teammate Arik Armstead as the 49ers appear to be building along the defensive front once again. Buckner has size, athleticism and high-end pass-rush potential for a big man.

Worst pick:John Theus, OT (Round 5, No. 145 overall)
Skinny: Theus is tough, to be sure, and he will battle rep in and rep out, but his lack of body control and overall athleticism will make a transition into the NFL a difficult one. Theus might have been available in the seventh round for the 49ers.

Seattle Seahawks

Best pick:Jarran Reed, DT (Round 2, No. 49 overall)
Skinny: His lack of pass-rush ability led to his fall out of the first round, but Reed has some of the best hands in the draft and can absolutely hold his own from a physical standpoint. The Seahawks have guys who can rush the passer, so adding a tree stump in the middle against the run is a great move here.

Worst pick:Quinton Jefferson, DT (Round 5, No. 147 overall)
Skinny: Jefferson will have to prove he can get into the gaps and become a penetrator because his play strength is hindered by a high pad level and lack of a sturdy, thick base.
