Myles Garrett's trade request jumpstarted rumors, speculation and daydreaming of potentially intriguing pairings with the former Defensive Player of the Year.
While the Cleveland Browns insist they won't trade the star edge rusher, that hasn't stopped discussions -- even among players.
Detroit edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson recently joined "The Squeeze" podcast, hosted by actor and Lions fan Taylor Lautner and his wife, Tay, and was asked about the possibility of teaming up with Garrett. The two were seen with Lions QB Jared Goff chatting at NFL Honors during Super Bowl week.
"If me and Myles were to pair up, that would be deadly, you know?" Hutchinson said. "I was talking to him, we were at the Honors, and we were just talking about what could be. And although it's probably unlikely, I think I would be thrilled to play next to him if it were to happen. But, yeah, our whole D-line would be totally elevated, and we would, whew, that'd be a scary defensive line. We get along, too. I've seen him these last few years at different things. He texted me after I got hurt -- it was just a cool thing. Guys outside of your own team who reach out to you, so I think he's a good dude. If he does, great, but I don't know. We'll see. But that would be awesome."
Garrett said his ultimate goal is to join a contender where he can realistically chase a Super Bowl ring in 2025 -- not viewing Cleveland, which is starting over again at quarterback, as that sort of option. Detroit, the NFC's No. 1 seed in 2024, would certainly qualify as a contender. However, if the Browns did relent on trading one of the best defenders in football, it would likely be for a massive haul.
As Hutchinson suggested, it seems like a long shot that general manager Brad Holmes would part with the type of draft capital it'd take to acquire Garrett and hand him the requisite new contract, knowing Hutchinson is also in line for an extension soon. However, Detroit can dream.
