2025 Kickoff Game between Cowboys-Eagles suspended due to inclement weather

The 2025 NFL Kickoff Game on Thursday night was delayed due to inclement weather.

With lightning in the area, the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles season opener at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia was suspended with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter and the Eagles leading, 24-20. Players began warming up at 11:15 p.m. ET and the game restarted at 11:30 p.m. ET.

The game was suspended at roughly 10:25 p.m. ET.

Fans were instructed to shelter in place away from open seating areas and players left to the locker room.

Rain started prior to kickoff but lightning strikes didn't follow until the third quarter, leading to the delay.

It was the second consecutive year in which the Kickoff Game has been delayed. In 2024, the onset of the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs was postponed, as well, due to lightning in the area.

The Eagles had possession of the ball following a fumble recovery by Quinyon Mitchell, which was the first drive of the game ended without an offensive score.
